Como adelgazar con resistencia a la insulina

This is a real story. This patient lost 26 kg in two months eating more than ever.

The day I saw it, I understood that Obesity is not caused by eating a lot and that’s why diets fail.

We all got fat during the day and we lost weight at night but this patient burned his fat all day and he did not know why.

He had lost weight because his body had stopped making insulin. He received treatment with insulin and when he came back in 6 months he was impressive. I could not believe what I was watching. I had gained weight only where insulin was injected. His case serves to understand that obesity is not caused by eating too much and doing little exercise.

Few nutritionists know it but insulin gets fat without eating more ( 1 , 2 ) and all people with obesity have the highest insulin ( 3 ). Half of Mexicans have insulin so high that they need to take Metformin to lose weight ( 3 ).

A year after seeing that patient, I was part of the research team of Dr. Daniela Jakubowicz who discovered that high insulin fattens in the abdomen of women and that Metformin can help them lose weight ( 5 ). I’m sure that doctor will win the Nobel Prize in medicine one day.

How to diagnose insulin resistance at home

This test helps to know in a minute if they need to take Metformin to lose weight or not. This test is carried out by all doctors and nutritionists when a patient arrives who fattens even without eating much.

By doing this test at home they will help their doctors decide whether they need Metformin or not. According to science this test is better than measuring glucose and insulin in the laboratory. It’s even better than the waist / hip index.

If your neck is greater than 36 cm in women or greater than 42 cm in men it means that they get fat because they have insulin resistance and should take Metformin to lose weight, especially if they have these symptoms:

  • anxiety about eating carbohydrates in the afternoon
  • increased abdominal fat (even without eating a lot)

Patients with insulin resistance often have warts in the neck and snoring when sleeping.

Before, it was thought that the cause of obesity was eating a lot and doing little exercise, but now it is known that insulin makes you fat even without eating more calories ( 1 , 2 ). Additionally, insulin causes anxiety by eating sweets and decreases the desire to exercise (5,6).

Instead of dieting or lowering calories, it is best to make every effort to make insulin work well and the body to manufacture the hormones that transform fat into energy.

  1. Sleeping lose weight and not getting enough sleep. We all lose weight at night and get fat during the day, but it is necessary to sleep deep so that the hormones that help you lose weight (melatonin, growth hormone, cortisol) are made. Sleeping with someone who snores fat (because it interferes with deep sleep). Also turn on the bathroom light or check the cell at dawn affects the hormones and leads to gain weight.
  2. Those who eat a lot of breakfast can leave the diet at night and they will not get fat. In contrast, skipping breakfast damages the genes that control weight ( 1 ) and causes the next meal to rise more insulin ( 3 , 4 ). According to the studies still eating the same amount of calories, those who eat a lot of breakfast and have little dinner lose weight, while those who have little breakfast and eat a lot get fat ( 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 ). A large, protein-rich breakfast is the best way to prevent diabetes and lose weight ( 9 , 10 ), especially if breakfast is accompanied by whey protein ( 11 ,12 , 13 ). Whey protein improves the action of insulin and thins even more than Metformin ( 14 ).
  3. Those who have high insulin feel anxious to eat (fat brain) attacks and if they diet the anxiety attacks worsen. A large breakfast helps to not feel anxious in the afternoon, but breakfast must occur when getting up. If they take several hours to eat breakfast, the anxiety of the afternoon will not diminish.
  4. Eating less carbohydrates (rice, bread and fruits with a lot of sugar) improves insulin and reduces weight. Even without eating fewer calories, greater loss of body fat occurs when avoiding carbohydrates ( 14 ). Few know that a serving of rice has seven tablespoons of sugar and as it is not sweet many eat three servings without realizing that they are 21 tablespoons of sugar. There are good foods and bad foods. Some cause insulin resistance and others improve insulin resistance.

Why diet makes you fat

By eating less the body is prepared to save energy. Initially causes the appetite to increase, if the diet continues the body begins to transform the muscles into sugar, causing the loss of muscles is greater than the reduction of fat. Finally, it decreases the energy expenditure in the brain and organs. That means that even eating less does not get thinner. Worse yet, when the body is saving energy it is easier to get fat when leaving the diet.

I do not know if nutritionists will adopt scientific advances but what can not continue to happen is that they blame patients for feeling anxious and getting fat without eating too much.
